New York native, Joanne Schreiber made her home on Cape Ann over 12 years ago. Part of the first wave of women musicians in rock-n-roll during the 1960's, Joanne immediately made an impact on the Gloucester music scene with her innovative guitar work and sultry voice. Schreiber has become a staple in the annual New Year's Rockport Eve Festival and The Rockport Acoustic Festival. Joanne organized the first successful all women open-mic forum, "In Her Image" in Rockport during the mid-1990's. A big supporter of community and compassion, Joanne has donated her time and energy to many local causes and charities with her music and craft. She is an active board member of the artists coaltion SeArts, and is known all over Cape Ann for her creative flair and infectious laugh. Most recently, Joanne founded and produced the Northeast SEA GlassFestival last Oct. in Rockport. The first event of its kind, the festival drew hundreds of people from across the country to share in Joanne"s love of the treasures found in sea and sand.

In May 2005, Joanne was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Friends and loved ones immediately came forth to help. Together, they have organized HANDS FOR JOANNE, a benefit to help with the high costs of cancer treatments and therapy. Joanne's medical insurance does not cover many of the vital needs of a cancer patient, so organizers are asking the community to come together to help lift this burden.

The evenings' concert will feature an impressive line-up of dynamic performers including Joanne's good friend, Judith Casselberry. Casselberry currently performs with her all women's reggae band, JUCA. As a vocalist and guitarist with Toshi Reagon and Big Lovely, she recently toured nationally in Evening Song, a collaboration with Sweet Honey in the Rock celebrating their 30th anniversary. Judith was co-founder of the internationally renowned duo Casselberry-Dupree. She has shared the stage with Patti Labelle, Elvis Costello, Jimmy Cliff, and Stevie Wonder among others. Beloved and well respected choreographer and musician Dawn Pratson, another good friend of Joanne's will perform a new piece. Singer, Chris Devlin, who appeared with Joanne in this New Year's Rockport Eve will be lending her vocal talent accompanied by John Hicks and Greta Bro. Red-Headed Stepchild featuring Christine Baze and Greg Dann will add their sweet acoustic sound to the mix. Christine, a cancer survivor, has achieved national success with her cancer awareness tour, Popsmear. Cape Ann Rhythm & Ensemble with choreographer, Joanne Hurd will bring their blend of African drumming and modern dance to the evening. Singer/songwriter, Brian King and violinist, Nathan Cohen offer their mix of acoustic cabaret. Poets Kate Noonan and Sue Anne Willis will read from their work.

Attendees will also be able to pre-purchase Joanne's upcoming CD of original music, which she began recording inspite of her diagnosis.
