ANNOUNCEMENT FROM OUR SALEM SCREENINGS

- OCTOBER 1997-

(Press Announcement)

The city's Mayor is afraid to address it.
The city's Museums are afraid to show it.
The city's Arts organization is afraid to sponsor it.
But it won't go away
It's back. And it has something to say:
"wake up!"
"think about it!"
"talk about it!"

This Halloween season, Salem will have an alternative event to "Haunted Happenings."

"WITCH CITY" in WITCH CITY

From October 9th through November 1st, "Witch City" will be screened in Salem, every Thursday thru Sunday. "Witch City" takes a critical look at how some people manipulate and market Salem's Witch history for commercial and religious gain. Merchants, politicians, Wiccans, Christians and psychics are all part of a linked chain that helps draw tourists, dollars and attention - particularly during October's "Haunted Happenings" events. "Witch City" asks a simple question: "Is this appropriate?" No matter what you feel, here's a chance to talk about what's going on in Salem - and to do it in Salem, while it goes on. An interactive media experience, with the filmmakers and other guests available to answer and debate. All views are welcome. Come one and all with your voice and visions. A public forum to promote contemplation and constructive change.

Immaculate Conception Hall (across from Hawthorne statue)
15 Hawthorne Boulevard ,Salem
